"We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask."
~ From "We Wear the Mask" written by; Paul Laurence Dunbar
As I was watching, "The Watchmen", a few nights ago, I got the urge to draw something in traditional American comic style. Since I was watching, "The Watchmen", I wanted to draw something with Rorschach, since he is so bad ass. I then remembered the web sensational meme, "Rorschach and Deadpool" video, ( [link]
) and knew that I had to do something related to that. The initial sketch felt off, like something was missing, and I decided to add another of my favourite grim heroes, "Spawn". During one of the videos for "Rorschach and Deadpool", Deadpool makes a comment about the Watchmen being nothing but metaphors for metaphors, and this brought to mind the poem above. I am very pleased with the final outcome.
